Masumi Rostad, viola

Grammy Award-winning Japanese-Norwegian violist Masumi Rostad is an in-demand soloist, chamber musician, and teacher. Rostad currently serves on the faculty of the Eastman School of Music and as Co-chair of the University of Rochester Faculty Senate. Rostad is a former member of the Pacifica Quartet, named Musical America’s 2009 Ensemble of the Year, and recipient of the Cleveland Quartet Award, Avery Fisher Career Grant, and Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center Bowers Program residency at Lincoln Center. Rostad is a contributing writer to such publications as the Huffington Post, Guardian, Strings, and Gramophone magazines and actively maintains a YouTube channel about music and musicians. He studied with legendary violist and pedagogue Karen Tuttle at the Juilliard School. Rostad is a D’Addario Artist. His Brothers Amati viola was crafted in Cremona, Italy in 1619.
