Artist Bio

Matthew Johnson, cello

Matthew is currently a PhD student at the University of Cambridge, where he is a Gates Scholar, studying moral psychology and moral philosophy. He holds an MPhil from the University of Cambridge (2015), a BA from Yale University (2014), and a degree in cello performance (Diplome d'Execution, Division Superieure) from the Ecole Normale de Musique (2008). Previously, he was a researcher and contributing scholar at the Yale Center for Faith and Culture, working on joy and human flourishing. In 2014, his piano trio (Adamantius) released their debut album, "Live From Leigh Hall," and his 12-cello rock group (Low Strung) released their second album, "Quadruple Moon." Previously, he studied cello with Ole Akahoshi, Jean-Michel Fonteneau, and Genevieve Teulieres-Sommer.
