Artist Bio

Mihai Marica, cello

Cellist Mihai Marica won First Prize in the 2005 Irving M. Klein International String Competition, as well as First Prize and the Audience Choice Award at the 2006 “Dr. Luis Sigall” International Competition in Viña del Mar, Chile, and the 2006 Charlotte White’s Salon de Virtuosi Fellowship Grant. He has performed with orchestras such as the Symphony Orchestra of Chile, the Xalapa Symphony in Mexico, the Hermitage State Orchestra of St. Petersburg in Russia, the Jardins Musicaux Festival Orchestra in Switzerland, and the Louisville Orchestra and the Santa Cruz Symphony in the United States. He has appeared in recital performances in Austria, Hungary, Germany, Spain, Holland, South Korea, Japan, Chile, the United States, and Canada. As a chamber musician, he is a member of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s CMS Two program and the award-winning Amphion String Quartet. Marica studied with Gabriela Todor in his native Romania and with Aldo Parisot at the Yale School of Music, where he was awarded a master of music degree and an Artist Diploma.
