Artist Bio

Adiel Shmit, Cello

An active soloist and chamber musician, cellist Adiel Shmit has performed in Europe as a member of the Libera Musica Society" and continuously returns to his native Israel as a soloist with orchestras, recitals and broadcasts.

In the United States, Mr. Shmit has performed in venues such as the Aspen Music Festival, "BargeMusic" series, the Artur Balsam workshop and at Yale University.

Most recently, Mr. Shmit's chamber music and solo activities have taken him to Italy, Belgrade, Helsinki, Istrael, Washington and New York where he recently collaborated with Choreographer Igal Perri and his dance company, playing the Bach cello suites with live Dance. In June 2005 Adiel Premiered a new cello concerto by Doron Toister with the Ra'anana Symphony and later performances with the Jerusalem Symphony.

In addition to his passion for chamber music Adiel premiered many works that were written especially for him on stage, radio and television and has collaborated among others with renowned Israeli Composers Mark Kopytman released on the JMC label.

Adiel is a graduate of the Oberlin College Conservatory and the Juilliard School, studying with Joel Krosnick and Darrett Adkins, and is now a doctoral candidate student of Cellist Colin Carr at the state University of New York at Stony Brook.
