Artist Bio
First violinist of the Juilliard String Quartet, Areta Zhulla has been praised for her “captivating, colorful approach” (Strad) and “intense musicality” (Strings Magazine). She performs regularly at many of the world’s premier venues, and currently teaches at the Juilliard School as part of its violin and chamber music faculty. Zhulla has appeared as soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician throughout the United States, Europe, Canada, and Asia, and was a member of Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s Bowers Program (formerly CMS Two). She served as teaching assistant to Itzhak Perlman for three years, has recently appeared as faculty at the prestigious chamber music academy Villa Musica in Germany, and regularly teaches at the Perlman Music Program Chamber Music Workshop, of which she is an alumna. Zhulla holds a bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Juilliard School, where she studied with Itzhak Perlman and Catherine Cho, and was a recipient of the Vergotis Scholarship.
