2016: Russian Reflections

The 2016 season illuminated the cultural dialogue between Russia and the West from which Russian classical music grew into one of the most powerful of all musical genres.  Seven Concert Programs connected Russian and Western European music through universal concepts, featuring music by Russian musical giants including Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev, Shostakovich, Mussorgsky and Taneyev, along with pieces by their Western counterparts. Four of Music@Menlo’s Carte Blanche Concerts devoted themselves exclusively to Russian repertoire, displaying Russia’s unsurpassed musical instinct for instrumental invention and flair.
