From Bach: Disc 5 (2013)
Disc V features two works indebted to the legacy of Johann Sebastian Bach. His sonatas for violin and keyboard–typically performed with the cello augmenting the continuo–gave birth to an entirely new genre, after which Johannes Brahms would write his Piano Trio in c minor. Mozart’s Divertimento, a masterpiece as beguiling in character as it is epic in breadth, illuminates the splendor of the string trio ensemble, as first realized by Bach in works such as his Brandenburg Concerto no. 3. | Liner Notes
