Disc 1 bridges together the foremost masters of the Baroque era with two of France's most distinct musical voices from the turn of the twentieth century. Handel's Concerto in d minor and the elegiac cantata Ich habe genug of J. S. Bach reflect the elegant Baroque aesthetic evoked more than a century later in Ravel's Le tombeau de Couperin. Saint-Saëns's fantastical Le carnaval des animaux (Carnival of the Animals) provided one of the 2007 festival season's musical highlights and closes this CD on a note of sheer delight.
