Artist Bio

Estelle Choi, cello

A native of Calgary, Alberta, cellist Estelle Choi began her musical studies at the age of five with John Kadz. She went on to study with Aldo Parisot at the Yale School of Music and Ronald Leonard at the Colburn Conservatory of Music. Her awards as a soloist include First Prize in the Canadian Music Competition, the Alberta Provincial Music Festival, and the Calgary Concerto Competition. She has performed with renowned artists including John Perry, Paul Coletti, Joshua Bell, eighth blackbird, and members of the Tokyo and St. Lawrence String Quartets. Choi has participated in Morningside Music Bridge, Banff Centre for the Arts Summer Residencies, the McGill International String Quartet Academy, the Great Mountains Music Festival in Korea, the Pacific Music Festival String Quartet Course in Japan, the National Arts Centre’s Young Artist Program, Yellow Barn, and Aspen Music Festival’s Center for Advanced Quartet Studies. In 2014, Estelle Choi joined the faculty of Stony Brook University as a visiting assistant professor. She holds a master’s degree from Yale and an undergraduate degree and Artist Diploma from the Colburn Conservatory of Music.
