Artist Bio

Mila Wyrick, cello

Mila Wyrick is a 17 year old cellist from South Orange, NJ, and a student of Wolfram Koessel from the American String Quartet. Mila has many interests within her active music life, including solo, chamber and orchestral playing. This past spring, Mila was the winner of the 2024 KPYC competition and performed Dvorak Cello Concerto with the New Sussex Symphony. In addition, Mila has been a featured soloist and prize winner in the International Camerata Artists competition performing Saint Saens Cello Concerto.

Mila’s string quartet Mystique, winners of the Gold medal at the Oskar Rieding chamber music competition, performed recently at the 2024 Fischoff Junior International Competition. Mila’s quartet was awarded the 2024 Director’s Award with the New York Youth Symphony (NYYS) Chamber Music program, and are frequently featured performers at galas and fundraisers for Kinhaven music school and NYYS, including performances at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and yearly performances at Carnegie Weill Hall.

Mila is also a member of the Grammy winning New York Youth Symphony. She attended the Heifetz PEG program in 2019 as well as Kinhaven Senior Music Camp in 2021 and 2022. Mila was principal cello for the Elite Academy Orchestra, which collaborated with soloists Lisa Batiashvilli and Pekka Kuusisto. Mila has performed in solo masterclasses with Hans Jensen, Lawrence Lesser, Fred Sherry, Joel Krosnick, Patrick Jee, Julia Lichten, Alan Stepansky, Jonathan Spitz, and Madeleine Golz.

This fall, Mila will be attending San Francisco Conservatory of Music, studying with Richard Aaron.

Mila plays on a contemporary instrument by Grubaugh & Seifert of Petaluma, CA.
