

Violinist Hiro Yoshimura, 18, is a senior at Cupertino High School. He began playing the violin at six and is currently studying with Chen Zhao of SF Symphony (SFS) and Tomomi Matsumoto. Hiro has performed the Glazunov violin concerto with the Prometheus Symphony Orchestra and the SFS Youth Orchestra (SFSYO), where he served a co-concertmaster, and the Sibelius violin concerto with the DVC Philharmonic Orchestra, as a winner of the respective concerto competitions. He also performed the third movement of the Glazunov with the SFS at Davies Symphony Hall in April 2024. Hiro has also won top prizes in other regional and international competitions including 2024 YoungArts Competition, 2022 Paci c Musical Society, and 2022 Burlingame Music Club. Hiro is also an avid chamber musician, and has been a part of Susan Bates’s Young Chamber Musician program since 2021. He has also performed a quartet with other SFSYO members for the Marine League of the SFS, and separately performed a quartet with SFS members, including his teacher Chen Zhao, at the SFS Board Meeting in June 2023. Hiro is also a founding member and co-regional director of the Santa Clara County chapter of the BackToBACH project since 2022.
