Timothy Chua, a 14 year old cellist, has performed in the major concert halls in Singapore, including as a soloist with the Young Virtuosi at the Victoria Concert Hall and the Musician’s Initiative at the Esplanade. As Principal Cellist of the Singapore National Youth Orchestra for three seasons, Timothy has enjoyed performing a range of symphonic repertoire. Recently, Timothy was selected to play with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra in a subscription concert under the baton of Hans Graf. Passionate about giving back to the community, Timothy has performed in charity concerts, including premiering works of a local composer in the ChildAid Charity Concert to raise funds for families in need. Timothy found a passion for chamber music during the COVID-19 pandemic and formed ARTrio. He has won top prizes for solo cello and chamber music, including at the Gustav Mahler Cello Competition, Performers’ Festival by Singapore Music Teachers’ Association, and World Piano Teachers Association International Competition. Timothy has been under the tutelage of Leslie Tan, artist faculty at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory and founding member of the Tang Quartet, since 2019. He has also had masterclasses with Sheku Kenneth-Mason, Paul Katz, Mickey Katz and Qin Liwei, and conducting classes with Peter Stark. Timothy was principal cellist and student conductor of the orchestra at ACS(Independent) where he studied. From Fall 2024, Timothy will embark on the next chapter of his music education at the Walnut Hill School for the Arts, with a cello professor at the New England Conservatory in Boston.
