Artist Bio

Stephen Chang, viola

Stephen Chang is an 11th grade homeschooler. He has played viola for 5 years and studies with Ronald Houston. He has also played piano for 10 years and plays violin for fun. He has been principal violist in the TMEA All-Region orchestra for 4 years and has made the Texas All-State orchestra for 3 years. He is currently co-principal of the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra. Stephen has won first place prizes at the 2023 Fort Worth Civic Orchestra Young Musicians Concerto Competition, the senior division at the 2023 Vernell Gregg Young Artists competition, and the Senior Sonata division at the 2023 Dallas Symphonic Festival. In addition, he has placed at the Lynn Harrell Concert Competition among numerous other competitions. Stephen has performed as a soloist at the Dallas Symphonic Festival Gala Concert as well as with the Fort Worth Civic Orchestra. He enjoys sharing his love of music with others through volunteering at local schools to teach and support their orchestra programs as well as by participating in the Chamber Music International Youth Ambassadors program. Outside of classical music, he enjoys competitive speech and debate and speedcubing. He also loves listening to K-Pop and eating delicious food!
