Steven Dibner, bassoon

Steven Dibner, Associate Principal Bassoonist of the San Francisco Symphony since 1983, studied bassoon, acting, and singing at Indiana University and got his master’s degree from Juilliard. While playing Principal Bassoon in the New Jersey Symphony, he developed a freelance career that spanned from the Metropolitan Opera to Broadway, as he toured the world and recorded as a member of the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. Featured as a soloist and chamber musician with the San Francisco Symphony and in festivals including those in Santa Fe and San Diego, he juggled summer commitments at the Aspen and Marlboro festivals for over twenty years. He coaches chamber music at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and teaches a class called Bel Canto for Wind Instruments.
