Violist Laura Liu is a native of Miami, Florida, and a proud recipient of a Kovner Fellowship at The Juilliard School where she studies with Cynthia Phelps. She made her orchestral debut as winner of the New World Symphony Side-by-Side Concerto Competition. Ms. Liu also performed with the Alhambra Orchestra as the winner of their Concerto Competition and was a finalist in the Blount-Slawson Competition. This season she was named a finalist in The Juilliard School Viola Competition and Music Academy of the West’s inaugural Duo Competition. Previously, she was a 2019 National Young Arts Foundation Winner, assistant principal viola of the 50 th Anniversary New York String Orchestra Seminar, and the 2019 Southeastern Region winner of the NFMC Wendell Irish Viola Award. Ms. Liu is a proud alumna of the Music Academy of the West, Heifetz International Music Institute, and Music@Menlo. Ms. Liu previously studied with Michael Klotz, violist of the Amernet String Quartet, and performed in masterclasses for Richard O’Neill, Roberto Díaz, Paul Neubauer, Wesley Collins, Karen Dreyfus, and Vivek Kamath.
