Artist Bio

Atticus Mellor-Goldman, cello

Atticus, originally born in Los Angeles, is 18 years old and currently studies with Julie Albers and Hans Jensen at the McDuffie Center for Strings in Georgia. An avid chamber musician, his quartet in Los Angeles was named the Colburn Honors Quartet for 2014/2015; as a group, they attended Pasadena Conservatory of Music’s summer Chamber Music Intensive and studied abroad at the Red Rocks Chamber Music Festival, where they received coaching from world-renowned artists, including Nokathula Ngwenyama, Paul Coletti and Schmuel Ashkenasi. Additionally, the Incendium Quartet traveled to South Bend, Indiana to compete at the internationally distinguished Fischoff Chamber Music Competition, where they competed against groups from all around the world and won the Gold Medal prize for the Junior Division. He has also attended various Summer Festivals including Interlochen, Music@Menlo, and the Yellowbarn Young Artists Program. In addition to chamber music, he also spent 2 seasons with the American Youth Symphony in Los Angeles, which has been praised as “the finest youth orchestra on Earth.” Furthermore, he was awarded the Interlochen Fine Arts Award in 2012 and received the first prize and 500 dollar scholarship at the Memorial Awards competition in 2013.
