Artist Bio

Jonah Ellsworth, cello

Hailing from Cambridge, Massachusetts, cellist Jonah Ellsworth has appeared as soloist with the Boston, Akron, and Jacksonville Symphonies, as well as the Boston Philharmonic, and New Bedford Symphony. Ellsworth has been described as “a player to watch” by the Boston Globe, and the Boston Musical Intelligencer wrote that he is “fearless [with a] complete range of expressive richness.” As the winner of the New England Conservatory’s lower strings concerto competition, Ellsworth performed the Elgar Cello Concerto with the NEC Philharmonia in March of 2016. He attended the Marlboro Music Festival in 2014, 2015, and 2016, and studies with Laurence Lesser at the New England Conservatory. He was recently invited to join the critically acclaimed Boston Trio. With the trio, he performed Beethoven’s Triple Concerto with the Boston Philharmonic in the 2016-17 season.
