Tickets: $70 adult; $35 student
Of Schubert’s Piano Trio in B-flat, Robert Schumann wrote: “One glance at Schubert’s Trio—and the troubles of our human existence disappear and all the world is fresh and bright again.” The majestic scope of Schubert’s glorious second trio bespeaks another of Schumann’s assessments: that of Schubert’s “heavenly lengths.”
Deepening the festival’s look at the Classical trajectory from Joseph Haydn to Franz Schubert (Concert Program II ), pianist Wu Han, violinist Philip Setzer, and cellist David Finckel present Schubert’s magnificent pair of piano trios. Dating from the composer’s final years, these masterpieces capture the pivotal moment in history between the Classical and the Romantic eras.
