Paying Tribute to Kreisler

Thursday, August 3, 2017

This morning at 11:45 a.m. in Martin Family Hall, audiences were treated to the penultimate masterclass of the festival, given by CMS Lincoln Center violinist Benjamin Beilman. As well as a busy international career as a soloist and chamber musician, Ben is the recipient of the prestigious Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship for 2014, a 2012 Avery Fisher Career Grant, and a 2012 London Music Masters Award. It was an all-Dvořák program as the International Program artists worked on the American String Quartet, and the Young Performers rehearsed the Czech composer’s Terzetto.

Later on Thursday evening in Stent Family Hall, Ben gave the final Carte Blanche Concert of the festival. Along with pianist Hyeyeon Park, Ben’s program celebrated a giant of violin repertoire and performance. The captivating concert, A Tribute to Fritz Kreisler, featured early violin works by Corelli, Bach, and Viotti that inspired the virtuoso composer-performer, along with Kreisler’s Praeludium and Allegro which opened the concert, and his exhilarating Viennese Rhapsodic Fantasietta among other works.
