Cellist Andrés Díaz has earned exceptional reviews for his “strongly personal interpretive vision” (New York Times) and his “bold and imaginative” playing (Boston Globe). Since winning First Prize in the 1986 Naumburg International Cello Competition, he has exhilarated both critics and audiences with his intense and charismatic performances. He was a 1998 recipient of the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant, as well as of a generous grant from the Susan W. Rose Fund for Music. Andrés Díaz has appeared with the Atlanta, Chicago, and American symphony orchestras, among numerous others, and his summer engagements have included the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, La Jolla Festival of the Arts, Ravinia Festival, Spoleto Festival USA, Tanglewood, and more. Andrés Díaz is currently Artist-in-Residence at Brevard Music Center in Brevard, North Carolina, and a member of the Díaz String Trio with violinist Andrés Cárdenes and violist Roberto Díaz.
